Reaching out to my younger self to say "it happened".

As a teenager, I used to love banging this away at the keyboard, but never really managed to play it fluidly. Nice to now experience it with less stress and more control. Like reaching out to my younger self to say "no worries, it worked out fine".

Prelude as engine, fugue as debate.

Since 2023 I've been recording piano music from my past. This is one I've admired for years but never learned to play.

Bach's music feels so beautiful and timeless. Do many people like it just because others like it? Or is there something about how it's constructed that reaches us in a certain way?

To me, the prelude sounds like an engine, and the fugue like a debate.

Street sofas… Why not?

The first time I visited Berlin, the area I stayed in gave me this feeling of calm and coziness such that I'd want to come back. I see more layers now after spending time in other neighbourhoods, but nice to connect with an old feeling by revisiting this moment.

My time there definitely gave me an appreciation for public spaces, as they aren't so common in other places I've visited. And yeah, public sofas… Why not?

Since 2023 I've been recording piano music from my past. This is one I learned in my second year of university.

Music is often considered subjective, but I'm not sure how wide the spectrum is to label the emotions around this one. Would anyone call this light-hearted? I would consider it more dramatic or intense.

The ways of creating 'crunch' here have definitely fed into my improvisation; I think it's an approximation of the beautifully imprecise blue notes we can effect more easily with the human voice, compensated for this instrument made of buttons.

Since 2023 I've been recording piano music from my past. This is one I played in my university audition.

Bach's music feels so beautiful and timeless. Do many people like it just because others like it? Or is there something about how it's constructed that reaches us in a certain way?

Notice how the prelude accompaniment is simply 'one note per beat', or how the entire fugue is basically the same fragment in different permutations; I find this 'economy of expression' inspiring.

I was walking by this house and stopped when I heard music. It was quite a sensation to hear such powerful sounds coming from a door. I didn't know what the context was, but someone might have explained to me later that it was a marriage-related celebration. Egypt and Brazil have two of my most favourite music cultures.
